Yale at the GrammysYou have to scroll down a bit past Sam Smith and Beck to find the Yale alumni on the list of this year’s Grammy award winners, but they’re a remarkable and inventive group. The a cappella quintet Pentatonix, which includes beatboxer (and sometime cellist) Kevin Olusola ’11, won the award for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella, for their medley of Daft Punk tunes. Conductor Craig Hella Johnson ’95DMA and his vocal ensemble Conspirare won Best Choral Performance for their album The Sacred Spirit of Russia. (A number of Johnson’s Conspirare singers are Elis, too.) And Robert Lopez ’97, who already has a slew of awards on his shelf, took home two more Grammys with his wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez for their work on the movie Frozen: Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, and Best Song for Visual Media (the ubiquitous ”Let It Go”).
