Hail to the chiefsIt’s Presidents Day, you say? We've had a few things to say about US presidents over the past few years. • In May/June 2011, biographer Barnet Schecter wrote about George Washington’s personal atlas of war maps, now in the collection of the Beinecke Library. • In January/February 2009, “Old Yale” columnist Judith Schiff recounted Abraham Lincoln’s 1860 visit to New Haven. • In Summer 2001, we covered the commencement address of new president George W. Bush ’68 (and the Class Day address of new senator Hillary Clinton ’73JD). • In March/April 2013, we told you about William Howard Taft’s years after the White House teaching at his alma mater—and showed you his extra-large chairs still preserved on campus. • And in May/June 2005, an alumnus told the story of his short career in Yale boxing, with a cameo appearance by a future president. ___________________________________________ The Yale Alumni Magazine is published by Yale Alumni Publications Inc., an alumni-based nonprofit that is not run by Yale University.
