President Peter Salovey ’86PhD said this morning that the university had acquired 1,000 acres of prime Florida real estate and will begin building a new campus in the Sunshine State within the next year. The announcement was made just days after a university spokesman initially turned down Florida governor Rick Scott’s invitation to move there to avoid the threat of a tax on the university’s endowment. One Yalie who won’t be making the move: Handsome Dan, who prefers not to go outdoors when the temperature is above 50 degrees. The university’s new mascot will be Slitherin’ Sal, a purebred Burmese python. | RECENT COMMENTS
