About 500 people rallied in front of Sterling Memorial Library, calling on Yale to become a “sanctuary campus” in response to President-elect Donald Trump’s plan to deport millions of undocumented immigrants. Graduate students and local Latino leaders spoke at the event, calling on students to get involved in local immigrant-rights efforts and to urge Yale not to cooperate with deportation efforts. The university said in a statement that it “takes seriously the concerns being expressed in our community about potential changes related to our country’s immigration laws.”
