James Gamble Rogers (1867–1947) the architect who designed eight Yale residential colleges, Sterling Memorial Library, the Law School, the Hall of Graduate Studies, and much more, was born 150 years ago today. Although he designed in more than one style, his gothic buildings defined the look of the Yale campus in the twentieth century. Everywhere you look—as in this passage between Branford and Saybrook Colleges—you can find evidence of his inventiveness, care, and attention to detail.
