The lobby of the Center for British Art is awash in porcelain vases in anticipation of an upcoming exhibition on British pottery. There are 80 of the vases spread throughout the center’s galleries, all part of a piece by artist Clare Twomey called Made in China. The vases were indeed made in China, and all but one of them were decorated there using transfers. The one remaining was shipped to the British porcelain company Royal Crown Derby and hand-decorated there, at a cost equivalent to the other 79 combined.
