Students and community members marched from Memorial Hall to the President’s House yesterday in the latest of a series of protests over a police shooting in New Haven’s Newhallville neighborhood on April 16. A Hamden police officer and a Yale police officer both fired their weapons after stopping Paul Witherspoon and Stephanie Washington in connection with an armed robbery; Washington was shot but was not critically injured. The officers are both on leave pending an investigation by the Connecticut State Police. The university says it is also conducting an internal review.
