Fifty years ago today, crowds packed the New Haven Green to protest the trial of Black Panther Bobby Seale. Amid incidents of violence on other college campuses (the Kent State shootings would come just three days later), the May Day events at Yale proved largely peaceful as the university opened its doors to protesters.
