Throwback Thursday: freshmen al fresco

Twenty-five years ago this month, President Richard Levin ’74PhD welcomed first-year students to Yale at what was then called the Freshman Assembly. (It's now the Yale College Opening Assembly.) What was unusual was the venue: outdoors on the Old Campus instead of in Woolsey Hall. The change didn't stick, and the president now typically gives his speech in Woolsey twice to accommodate the larger classes.
