Throwback Thursday: changes at Commons

One hundred years ago this month, we reported on changes in Yale’s then-20-year-old Commons dining hall. Although “it is the same hall, with the same pictures undisturbed,” we wrote, it had become three restaurants under one roof: weekly board, a la carte, and self-service. Women had “a room to themselves,” and a student orchestra played at lunch and dinner.
