Throwback Thursday: road scholars

Sixty years ago, when the nation was in a frenzy of interstate highway construction, we ran a photo essay on a little-known Yale program called the Bureau of Highway Traffic. The Bureau offered a one-year program to train professionals in highway engineering, leading to a Certificate in Highway Traffic. The students shown here were “recording traffic volume for statistical purposes.”
