For the first time since 2016, Yale’s annual Veterans Day observance was held on Hewitt Quadrangle yesterday in front of the newly restored World War I memorial. Among the speakers was Andrew Nguyen ’22, an undergrad who served in Afghanistan as an Army Ranger. Nguyen’s parents, who emigrated from Vietnam, were in the audience; he said he joined the service “to give back to this great nation that welcomed my family and gave them opportunity.”
