This fall, Yale celebrates the 150th anniversary of its first football game—a 3–0 victory over Columbia in New Haven on November 16, 1872. It was Yale’s only game that season, but it was enough to earn a retroactive national championship (shared with Princeton). We published this photo of the 1872 team in our October 1972 issue.
