Richard Serra ’64MFA, whom the New York Times called “one of his era’s greatest sculptors,” died on Tuesday at 85. In 1990, Serra created a site-specific sculpture called Stacks for the sculpture hall in Yale’s Old Art Gallery. (The title refers to the art library book stacks that were housed in the space during Serra's student years.) In 2006, with Serra's blessing, it was moved to the gallery’s sunken courtyard (shown here).
The comment period has expired.
