Throwback Thursday: out for blood

By February 1942, when this photo appeared in our magazine, Yale had been transformed by America's entry into World War II. The image shows students and Red Cross workers taking part in a blood drive at the Department of University Health (now Leigh Hall). "All blood contributed to this drive will be just as much a factor of victory as if it were actually shed on the battlefield," volunteer James Boughton ’43 told the Yale Daily News.
