I did not know Tony, but I have one story to share. On a climbing trip with two friends (all of us from Michigan) to the Cascades in 1974, we happened to meet Tony and his son, Matt, at Steamboat Prow on Mt. Rainier. Tony was planning to climb Mt Rainier with Matt the following day, as were my two friends and I. We were the only parties climbing that route on Mt. Rainier then, and in fact the only ones on that side of the mountain, as far as we could tell. While we didn't climb with Tony and Matt, we stayed in touch from time to time during the climb. We all successfully reached the summit and returned to camp. As one who had a disabled brother myself, I was impressed with Matt's determination (Matt had a disability) and Tony's commitment to his son. Later we saw mention in climbing books of Tony's many accomplishments in mountain climbing in the Cascades. Truly an outstanding man.
