I was one of Hal's roommates freshman year. Hal let me use his typewriter. That started me off on learning to type. Hal was a real booster of Chattanooga. During freshman year, Hal sent a postcard to his mother every day, to let her know he was all right and that he hadn't fallen into the hands of criminals. Of course, we his roommates were a shady crew, but he dropped off a postcard, with something on it in his handwriting, every day at Yale Station. I saw Hal at the 25th reunion; he looked and sounded good.
