Gwendolyn McKee Bays died on May 15, 2013. She was a professor of French literature as well as a scholar of Buddhism and Eastern mysticism, writing and translating several books on the subject. 

An obituary was published in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on May 23, 2013.
