As an undergraduate at Yale he participated in the Navy ROTC program and served at Pearl Harbor. Later, he would go on to work in environmental and utility law and received the inaugural Samuel H. Porter Service Award in 2014. An obituary was published in the Rochester Democrat And Chronicle from October 16 to October 19, 2014.
