1 remembrance
Thomas F. Fay was my oboe instructor while attending Carnegie-Melon University School of Music 1969-'73. At that time he was an oboist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and highly respected amongst his peers. A brilliant musician and gifted teacher, he was completely devoted to his students spending countless hours with them beyond their music school required one hour per week lesson. Always looking for ways to expand the experience of his students he would hold master classes, extra curricular ensembles, and reed making sessions at his home which oftentimes lasted an entire day. Dedicated and one of the genuinely best persons I have ever known he became my mentor and upon graduation from Carnegie-Mellon, a most cherished friend. I credit Tom Fay with giving me the successful career I have had and will always be grateful to him for the promise he saw in me and the time he spent nurturing a young hopeful artist.
