In Remembrance: S. Roy Burroughs ’41 Died on July 14 2017

S. Roy Burroughs passed away on July 14, 2017, at the age of 97.

Roy spent the last 25 years of his life in Vero Beach, Florida, having moved from Belmont, Massachusetts, in 1988. He will be remembered for his unparalleled intellect, charm, and limericks. A consummate businessman, he once traded a beat-up 1974 yellow Volkswagen Thing for ten lobsters from Poole's Fish in Menemsha, Massachusetts.

Roy served in WWll in the Coast Guard. He enjoyed the Harvard/Yale football games and was a big Red Sox/Patriots fan. At Yale he was a member of Davenport College.

He will be missed by his wife, two daughters, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

I knew the Burroughs husband and wife when they were trustees of the Longy School of Music in Cambridge. They were very kind, generous, good managers, and devoted to supporting classical music. I was then at Harvard, later Fletcher School, and later
the US State Dept. In my spare time, I taught classical guitar at Longy. Mrs. Burroughs was a strong supporter of Longy School, and of classical musicians. They both gave guidance and valuable support to the classical music world in Cambridge and Boston. They made a difference in the lives of many musicians in greater Boston.
I send my best regards to the family of these two remarkable people.
