After graduating from Yale in 1954, Ellis served in the United States Air Force, receiving his wings in 1955. In 1982, Ellis received his PhD in psychology, and for the next fourteen years practiced alongside his wife in the Chicago Area. Ellis is survived by his wife and three children.
