In Remembrance: Thomas A. Steitz Died on October 9 2018

Thomas A. Steitz, Sterling Professor of Biophysics and Biochemistry and professor of chemistry, died of pancreatic cancer on October 9, 2018. He was 78.

Steitz was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry for his work identifying and describing the structure and function of the ribosome, the cellular protein-making factory that is essential to life. He joined the Yale faculty in 1970.

A symposium in Steitz's memory will be hosted by the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry on January 18, 2019.  A memorial service takes place on January 19 at 2:00 p.m. in Battell Chapel.
