In Remembrance: James Weldon Smith III ’55 Died on October 24 2018

James Weldon Smith III passed away on October 24, 2018, at the age of 85.  He taught philosophy and religion at MacMurray College in Illinois from 1962 to 1980, after which he pursued a career in arts administration and education.

    I absolutely admired and adored Dr. Smith. He was my faculty advisor when I became a philosophy-religion major along with Paul Taylor. I am so sad to learn of his passing almost 3 years to the date. He and Nancy brought much joy to my life personally and academically, times I will never ever forget. A smile from him was worth so much, whether in or outside of class. So very sorry I did not connect with him before he passed; but I will never forget him and the joy he brought to my life and my very soul. How I dearly loved him and still do.
