Wurtzel published her first novel Prozac Nation at the age of 27 before studying at the Yale School of Law. Later in life, she became an advocate for BRCA testing after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Wurtzel is survived by her husband, James Freed Jr., as well as her mother.
