In Remembrance: Margaret W. Morton ’77MFA Died on June 27 2020

Margaret Morton, a gifted photographer and beloved professor at Cooper Union School of Art, died unexpectedly on June 27, 2020, in New York City. She was 71. Through her photography she chronicled the lives and ingenuity of homeless people, and she published her work in Transitory Gardens, Uprooted Lives, with text by Diana Balmori (1993); The Tunnel: The Underground Homeless of New York City (1995); Fragile Dwelling (2000); and Glass House (2004). Her last book was Cities of the Dead: The Ancestral Cemeteries of Kyrgyzstan (2014). Margaret Morton’s photographs have appeared in numerous publications including the Washington Post and the Atlantic, and have been shown in dozens of solo and group exhibitions worldwide.
