I first met Andy as his Freshman Counsellor in the Autumn of 1969; both of us resident in the same entryway of Lawrance Hall. We soon became fast friends, and remained so throughout his undergraduate years. We talked a lot, shared a lot, partied a great deal, had many friends in common, and -- above all -- had tremendous fun together in each other's company. Many years later, we reconnected, thanks to Facebook, and renewed our friendship. Two years ago, we met -- somehow inevitably -- by arrangement, at the Yale Club in NY. I cherish that and so many other memories. Andy was a deeply thoughtful person, with overwhelming empathy, and a capacity to express his thoughts on philosophy, religion, and human relationships with great insight and an abundance of compassion. I mourn him deeply. He was a close friend, and greatly valued companion.
