Russell ’65 Died on January 22 2024View full imageDavid “Dave” William Russell Sr. of Bracey, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, January 22, 2024, with his wife by his side and surrounded by his family. He was 80. He was born on May 8, 1943, in Endicott, New York, to the late Charles and Wilma Glann Russell and was married to Cheryl Morse Russell, who survives. Dave earned his master’s degree from the University of North Carolina and did his undergraduate studies at Yale University. He retired from IBM, where he worked in contracts and procurement. Dave was an avid golfer and reader, sometimes reading as many as three books in a day. He will be remembered as an intelligent and analytic man that loved his family and was a good neighbor and friend. In addition to his wife of 25 years, Dave is survived by his children: David “Rusty” W. Russell Jr. (Yvonne) and Kim Marie Russell, of Cary, North Carolina; Brooke Porter (Rick) of Wake Forest, North Carolina; Lisa Lloyd of Boydton, Virginia; and Josh Nickol (Brooke) of Waynesville, North Carolina; and by grandchildren Nicholas Pearce (Connor) of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; Trace Russell, Payne Russell, and Banks Russell, all of Cary, North Carolina; Gabbie Adkins (Jacob) of Danville, Virginia; Finn Porter of Wake Forest, North Carolina; Hunter Eubanks of Durham, North Carolina; and Brenna Lloyd of Boydton, Virginia; Ben Nickol, Luke Nickol, and Grace Nickol, all of Waynesville, North Carolina; as well as by his sisters, Dorothy Cooper of Owego, New York; Jean Manchester of Sanford, North Carolina; Sandy Dwyer (Robert) of Raleigh, North Carolina; Jackie Murray and Connie Tibbetts (Jim) of Canton, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
