My condolences to Peter's family. Peter was one of the most important mentors in my development as a physician and, in particular, as a hematologist. I knew him somewhat from medical school but he became a key role model during my three year laboratory medicine residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was always conscientious, intensely focused on patients and their well being, and intellectually rigorous. His commitment and positive outlook, despite dealing with some of the most devastating and difficult clinical problems, always was evident. I will always be deeply grateful for the time and attention I received from him as a young physician. Hail and farewell to a fine physician and even finer human being.
