E. Thor Carlson, School of Art class of 1951, artist and teacher, has passed away at the age of 87 in Newport, New Hampshire. He is survived by his wife, Laura Carlson, and his son, Hans M. Carlson.  Born on September 18, 1925, in Gardener, Massachusetts, he served in the US Navy, in the South Pacific, during WWII. After the war, he attended the Yale School of Art and, in 1949, was one of the first Fulbright scholars to travel to Europe. There he studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy.  His career as a professional artist and teacher began soon after and spanned six decades.  He touched many people's lives with his work and his ideas, and he will be dearly missed. It was his wish that there be no funeral or memorial service.

Mr Carlson. For the many years, it has been since I’ve looked back. The treasure you always were. Those worn rusty corduroy, your lengthly gate early leaving for lunch.... Strategy chess by magnet set.... That one smoke each day you'd hold out for.... I was 14. A hot mess with maybe n fixing. Abused every way. Never by you. Lyrical truth. Someone never to forget..keep the rhythm.... Is a dancer.....
