Alumni, faculty tapped for federal commission

President Biden has appointed several School of Architecture alumni and faculty to the US Commission of Fine Arts, including Charles Gwathmey Professor in Practice Billie Tsien ’71 and lecturer Justin Garrett Moore, who join Duncan Stroik ’87MArch on the commission. The organization was founded by the US Congress in 1910 to advise on the planning and design of Washington, DC, federal memorials and national symbols.

Deans’ equity and inclusion initiative

The Yale School of Architecture is collaborating with architecture schools around the country on a new initiative that will work to create new paths into architecture academia for designers and researchers, with attention to BIPOC and other underrepresented faculty. The initiative seeks to provide fellows with “the intellectual freedom to teach and research what you are interested in, where you want to make a difference.”

Student’s sustainable design wins award

Phoebe Mankiewicz, a PhD student with the Center for Ecosystems in Architecture, has won fourth prize in the LafargeHolcim Next Generation Awards, North America, for her project Pure Inhale, a plant-based indoor air purification module. The LafargeHolcim awards are considered the world’s most significant competition in sustainable design.
