Grant will support sleep studies

Yale University School of Nursing professor and associate dean for scholarly affairs, Nancy Redeker, and associate professor at Yale School of Medicine and director of the Yale Sleep Medicine Program, Henry Yaggi, have been awarded a P20 Research Center grant from the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), a component of the National Institutes of Health. The grant will fund the new Yale Center for Sleep Disturbance in Acute and Chronic Conditions, which aims to improve the knowledge of sleep disturbance across the trajectory of acute and chronic conditions and to improve symptoms, function, quality of life, morbidity, and mortality of those affected.

 

Connecticut nurses honor professor

Alison Moriarty Daley, associate professor at YSN, was awarded the 2012 Florence S. Wald Award from the Connecticut Nurses Association for outstanding contribution to nursing practice. The award (named after former YSN Dean Wald) is part of several Diamond Jubilee awards founded by CNA to recognize individuals or organizations that have made outstanding contributions to nursing in the areas of practice, education, administration, political action, and service to CNA.

 

Community health advocate named distinguished alumna

Margaret Flinter ’80MSN was presented the 2012 YSN Distinguished Alumna Award during the YSN Alumnae/i Reunion Weekend in September. The award is given to an alumna who has made significant contributions to the professional nursing community and to society as a whole. Flinter is the senior vice president and clinical director of Community Health Center, Inc., a statewide federally qualified health center serving 130,000 patients across Connecticut, and is the founder and director of CHC’s Weitzman Center for Research and Innovation in Community Health and Primary Care.
