Yale Rep resident director leaving for Juilliard

Professor in the practice of acting and resident director at Yale Repertory Theatre, Evan Yionoulis ’82, ’85MFA, has been appointed the Richard Rodgers Director of Juilliard’s Drama Division, effective July 1, 2018. Evan joined the faculty in 1997 as a lecturer and in 1998 became chair of acting, a post she held until 2003, when she stepped down to be more available for freelance directing work. The recipient of a Drama-Logue and an OBIE award, Evan has directed more than 60 productions nationwide, including premieres of works by Richard Greenberg and Adrienne Kennedy. She made her Yale Rep debut in 1985 while she was still a student at the School of Drama and has directed 14 subsequent productions at the Rep, including Kiss by Guillermo Calderón
this spring.

“The School of Drama and Yale Rep have been profoundly blessed by Evan’s extraordinary 20 years of service,” said Dean/Artistic Director James Bundy ’95MFA. “However much we will miss her here in New Haven, by so much may we be confident she will continue to raise the standard of practice in the field through her leadership at Juilliard, where so many of our current and future collaborators will be uplifted by her spirit and expertise. Her new appointment is, quite simply, wonderful news for the future of our art form.”
