MacArthur fellow bows at Yale Rep
MacArthur Foundation “genius grant” fellow Luis Alfaro makes his Yale Rep debut this spring with a new production of his play, Mojada: A Medea in Los Angeles. A Chicano playwright, poet, and performance artist, Alfaro is the author of an award-winning Greek trilogy which transplants the ancient tragedies of Electra, Oedipus the King, and Medea to the twenty-first-century streets of Los Angeles and has been seen at theaters throughout the United States and Europe. The Yale Rep production of Mojada, which unleashes the power of Euripides’s ancient tale through the story of an undocumented family caught in the grip of the American immigration system, runs March 10–April 1 and is directed by Laurie Woolery, whose previous Yale credits include Manahatta and El Hurácan.
