The Carlotta Festival returns
The Carlotta Festival, the annual showcase of new work by graduating playwrights at David Geffen School of Drama, is being presented May 5–12, for the first time since 2019. The 2023 edition includes Color Boy by Esperanza Rosales Balcárcel ’23MFA, directed by Jecamiah M. Ybañez ’19MFA; littleboy/littleman by Rudi Goblen ’23MFA, directed by Jacob Basri ’23MFA; and Furlough’s Paradise by a. k. payne ’23MFA, directed by Leyla Levi ’23MFA.
The Carlotta Festival is named for Carlotta Monterey, the widow of Eugene O’Neill, who chose Yale University Press as the publisher of her late husband’s masterpiece Long Day’s Journey into Night. It is written on the copyright page of the first paperback edition that the proceeds from its publication are to go to playwriting at Yale University.
