Hands up if you ever sipped or browsed at Atticus Bookstore and Café, a tenant of the Yale Center for British Art since 1976. Back in our March 1996 issue, Michelle Chihara ’96 explained Atticus’s preeminence among the growing number of campus coffee shops: “Maybe it’s a trick of location. Maybe it’s the storefront windows lined with muffins and books. Maybe it’s the black bean soup. But if you want to meet a Yalie for coffee, chances are this is where you’ll go. This is the site of the intense and heartfelt conversations at Yale.”
