Year of the woman

When Yale awarded Gloria Steinem—“feminist and firebrand, icon and iconoclast,” above—an honorary degree today, she was one of 11 honorees on the dais. For the first time in Yale history, a majority—eight, to be exact—were women. The honorees and the 4,000-plus other graduates enjoyed a sunny day on the Old Campus. More on Commencement, including a list of honorees and video of the events, here.
